EDUCATION PROGRAMS

2023-2024

Ann Arbor Orthodox Classical Academy recognizes parents as their children’s first educators and wishes to support their important role to help bring their children to Christ.  One of the best ways to do this is by offering children an intellectually-stimulating, Christ-centered education that provides them the tools that enable them to see God’s handiwork and to better know and glorify Christ.  This is what an education in the classical tradition can offer our children.

We currently offer four (4) programs, each designed to support the various needs of parents and to help support their important obligation as first educators of their children:

* MICROSCHOOLING

* ON-LINE

* BLENDED LEARNING

* FULL-TIME

Here is an overview of our program offerings and tuition for each program for the 2023-2024 school year. Kindly note that while our current program offerings are for Preschool until 2nd Grade students, we intend to add a grade level each school year thereafter. Third and Fourth Grade will be offered in the 2023-2024 school year if minimum enrollment is met.

The curriculum that we have adopted and adapted for all of our programs is from Memoria Press, which is developed and tested at Highlands Latin School in Kentucky.  To give you a sense of the caliber of the curriculum, students at Highlands Latin School consistently outperform their peers on nationwide standardized tests.  For information on the curriculum and subject-specific learning objectives at each grade level, please refer to the Scope and Sequence document.

MICROSCHOOLING (flyer)

Grades offered: Preschool, Junior Kindergarten (Pre-K), Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade

Microschooling is a cross between a homeschooling co-op and a private school. Students meet at school two days a week (on Wednesdays and Fridays) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Parent/Guardian participation in class is expected, although this is not a requirement for enrollment. The program is designed for students with access to approximately 3 to 4 hours of at-home parent/guardian learning support on each of the three days per week that we do not meet (for Kindergarten to 2nd Grade students). Preschool and Junior Kindergarten students can experience enriched learning experiences through extension activities at home and instructors can provide this option for parents who inquire. At home, parents/guardians of Kindergarten to Second Grade students are responsible for covering curricular topics assigned for that day and any other topics not covered in class (as advised by the instructor), as well as marking students' work.

For Kindergarten to Second Grade students, the program offers:

* a low student-instructor ratio (which allows for individualized attention, as needed)

* regular instruction in the subject areas of phonics/reading, grammar, and mathematics, and some instruction in writing and spelling; if time permits,  there is occasional instruction in science and/or history/geography/cultural studies

* opportunities for community building and fellowship (among students and parents/guardians) through parents'/guardians' in-class support to facilitate their children’s learning

ON-LINE   (flyer)

Grades offered: Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade

Our On-Line program involves 1 hour and 15 minutes of class time three days a week (on Mondays Tuesdays, and Thursdays).

During On-Line lessons, our On-Line instructor primarily teaches mathematics- and phonics-related concepts for the week. Our instructor provides students with the opportunity to enhance their learning and understanding of these concepts through engaging on-line activities.  Our On-Line instructor provides exceptional instruction for students and homeschooling support for parents to help them successfully deliver quality instruction at home that supports their children's learning. Students are expected to have access to 3 to 4 hours per weekday of at-home learning support to help support their progression towards pre-specified curricular learning goals

BLENDED LEARNING   (flyer)

Grades offered: Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade

Our Blended Learning program is a combination of our Microschooling (in-person) and On-Line programs, so that each day of the school week students have the opportunity to engage with their learning with the support of an instructor working alongside them and their parents. As with our Microschooling and On-Line programs, the goal of our Blended Learning program is to support parents to offer their children an exceptional homeschooling education in the classical Christian tradition.  During On-Line days, it is expected that students have access to 3 to 4 hours per day of at-home learning support, so as to assist with their progression towards pre-specified curricular learning goals.

FULL- TIME   (flyer)

Grades offered: Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade

Our Full-Time program involves instruction from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The same quality curriculum (as with our Microschooling, On-Line, and Blended Learning programs) is offered to our full-time students through the guidance and instruction of practicing Orthodox Christian instructors.

If you have any questions about any of our programs and would like to reach out, please e-mail us at info@a2oca.org or call us at (734) 215-5739.  We would be happy to hear from you!
